About Can My Dog Eat
Why this site exists
I'm a web developer, and I have a yellow Labrador called Willow. If you know Labs, you'll know they'll eat just about anything they can get their paws on.
I found myself constantly searching "can dogs eat [whatever Willow was eyeing up]" and wading through ad-heavy articles just to get a simple yes or no answer. So I built this site — a quick, no-nonsense tool that tells you straight away whether a food is safe for your dog.
What started as something for my own use turned into something I thought other dog owners might find useful too. Every food on the site is backed by at least two authoritative veterinary sources.
How it works
Every food on this site is researched using trusted veterinary sources including the ASPCA, AKC, PetMD, VCA Animal Hospitals, and the Merck Veterinary Manual. Each entry requires a minimum of two independent sources before it's published.
Foods are rated with a simple traffic-light system:
Important disclaimer
This site is for informational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional veterinary advice. Every dog is different — individual allergies and sensitivities are common. Always introduce new foods in small amounts and consult your vet if you're unsure about anything.
If your dog has eaten something toxic, contact your veterinarian or an animal poison helpline immediately.
