Can Dogs Eat Nectarines?

Nectarine flesh is safe in small amounts; always remove the stone first.

Use caution when feeding dogs nectarines

Every dog is different. Individual allergies and sensitivities are common — always introduce new foods in small amounts and watch for adverse reactions. This site is for informational purposes only and is not veterinary advice. Always consult your vet.

The Full Picture

The flesh of a ripe nectarine is safe for dogs in small quantities and provides vitamins A and C, potassium, and fibre. However, the stone (pit) is a serious hazard — it contains amygdalin, which can release cyanide, and is large enough to cause choking or intestinal blockage if swallowed. Always slice the flesh away from the stone and cut into small pieces before offering to your dog. The skin is safe to eat. Due to the high natural sugar content, nectarines should only be given as an occasional treat. Avoid tinned nectarines in syrup, as the added sugar is unhealthy for dogs.

What You Should Know

Although not outright toxic, there are important precautions to bear in mind before sharing nectarines with your dog. Portion size matters, and certain preparations or varieties may be unsafe. If your dog has any existing health conditions, check with your vet first.
